Week 5 is unlike any week before it — each of the three sessions is different, and the last one asks for something you haven't done yet at all: 20 minutes of running with no walk breaks.
Session 1: Run 5 min → Walk 3 min → Run 5 min → Walk 3 min → Run 5 min.
Session 2: Run 8 min → Walk 5 min → Run 8 min.
Session 3: Run 20 minutes continuously. No walk breaks.
Sessions 1 and 2 are there to build you up to session 3, not to be judged on their own. The 20-minute continuous run is the real milestone of the whole 9-week plan — the first time you've run further than a few minutes without stopping. It's normal for the pace to feel slower than earlier interval runs; that's the right trade to make.
Session 3 is the big one. Start slower than feels necessary, at a pace you believe you could hold for 30 minutes. Split the run into four 5-minute chunks in your head and check in at each: breathing, shoulders, stride. The first 10 minutes should feel boringly easy.
Do session 3 after a rest day, not the day after session 2 if you can avoid it. Sleep well the night before. A fresh body does a 20-minute run far better than a tired one.
Repeating a week is a normal part of Couch to 5K, not a failure. If you could not finish the sessions, or you finished them but felt wrecked for a day or two, do this week again before you move on. The plan is time-based, so nothing is lost by taking an extra week.
Week 6 adds a longer run, building to 25 minutes. Go to week 6.

A 20-minute continuous run with nothing to listen to but your own breathing is where most bare-timer apps go quiet at exactly the wrong moment. Exhale Exhale builds this session as an unbroken mission arc — the handler stays with you the whole 20 minutes, because that's exactly when you need it most.
